Florentino R. Esquivel

Florentino R. Esquivel, 76, of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, formerly of Sabinal, died Aug. 30, 2018, at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon, Wisconsin.

He was born on Dec. 5, 1941, in Nueva Rosita Coahuila, Mexico, to Catalina (Rodriguez) and Felix Esquivel.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in La Pryor. Interment will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery in La Pryor. A luncheon will be served afterwards for family and friends.

His family moved to southwest Texas when he was a youth, and he grew up in Texas.

He married Amelia Mendoza on Aug. 14, 1971, in Clyman, Wisconsin, and the couple then settled in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, and raised a family.

He was employed as a foundry worker at Amcast in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. He retired in 2005. He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Parish in Wisconsin. Esquivel was passionate about listening to all types of music, but especially appreciated country music, ’50s and ’60s rock and roll and Tejano music. The family says he was proud of his 1966 Ford truck and was an avid Packers fan. He enjoyed fishing, walking with his wife and cooking – especially creating special meals for his grandchildren, with funny names like “spaghetti tacos.”

Esquivel is survived by his wife of 47 years, of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; his daughter, Sandi Esquivel-Mauer and husband, Wesley, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; three sons, Abel Esquivel of West Milwaukee, Wisconsin,, Adrian Esquivel of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and David Esquivel of Cedarburg, Wisconsin;  nine grandchildren, Alejandro Esquivel, Catalina Esquivel-West, Doraelia Esquivel, Kaliyah Esquivel, Adrian Esquivel Jr., Soraya Esquivel, Abel Esquivel Jr., Talia Esquivel and Aiyanna Esquivel; great-grandson Miklo Florentino; three nieces, Shelly Casey of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Kelly Gomez of Castroville and Karen Davis-Garber of Sabinal; one nephew, Jimmy Davis of Carrizo Springs; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant brothers; and two sisters, Hilda Davis and Doraelia Esquivel.

A memorial mass was held on Sept. 5, 2018, at 4 p.m. at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church North, 1375 Covered Bridge Road, Cedarburg, Wisconsin. The Rev. Patrick Burns presided.
