Eva S. Garza
Eva S. Garza, 87, of Greeley, Colorado, died on Feb. 28, 2019, at Kenton Manor in Colorado.
She was born on Jan. 18, 1932, in San Benito to Adela Alcocer and Jose Saldaña.
She was reared and educated in San Benito.
On March 17, 1948, she married Manuel Garza Jr. in San Benito. The couple had been married for almost 71 years when he died on Feb. 15, 2019. After marrying, they moved to Colorado, where she lived for most of her life and raised eight children and one granddaughter, Michelle Hykes.
She loved jewelry, shopping, and spending time with her family and dogs. She enjoyed cooking traditional Mexican food and the family says her specialty was tamales. She enjoyed dancing, visiting and barbecuing with her family in Texas.
Garza is survived by three daughters, Graciela Martinez and husband, Daniel of Ault, Colorado, and Sandra Benavidez and Brenda Archuleta, both of Greeley, Colorado; three sons, Jose Manuel Garza of Evans, Colorado, Michael Garza of Johnstown, Colorado, and Ricardo Garza of Estes Park, Colorado; one granddaughter; sister, Ida Castillo-Lopez of Eagle Pass; brother, Noe Saldaña and wife, Teresa, of Uvalde; one sister-in-law; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Patricia Alvarez; daughter-in-law, Patti Garza; son, Alfredo Garza; son-in-law, Salome Alvarez; and brother, Adan A. Saldaña.
A visitation was held on Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a liturgical service at Stoddard Funeral Home of Colorado. A reception followed at Victory Outreach Church in Greeley, Colorado.
