Douglas Averill, 57, of Bastrop, formerly of Uvalde, died on April 1, 2019, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde. Interment will follow at Sabinal Cemetery. The Rev. Tony Gruben will officiate.
He was born on May 16, 1961, in Laredo to Vanita (Carpenter) and James Herbert Averill.
He graduated from Uvalde High School in 1979. He enjoyed collecting antiques, and decorating for holidays with his niece and nephew. The family says he loved caring for the elderly and was devoted to caring for his parents in their final years.
Averill is survived by his sister, Susan Shoemaker and husband, Jeff, of Fair Oaks Ranch; nephew, Ryan Shoemaker; and niece, Kendall Shoemaker.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
