Dorothy J. Willemin
Dorothy Jean Willemin, 76, died on Nov. 5, 2019, in Uvalde after spending a day full of visits from family and friends, bringing a long battle with endometrial cancer to a close.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Baptist Temple Church in Uvalde, with a reception to follow. The family asks that attendees refrain from wearing mourning attire in the spirit of Willemin’s vibrant personality.
The family also requests that visitors bring quilts or afghans Willemin crafted for and gifted to them. The items will be displayed at the service as a representation of her talents and giving nature.
Willemin was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on Dec. 29, 1942, to Virginia Chamberlain and Charles Stephens.
She married Donnegan Willemin on Sept. 8, 1962, in San Antonio. He preceded her in death in 2018.
She is survived by daughter, Donna Downing and husband, Eric, of Beeville; two sons, John Willemin and husband, Sam Thompson, of Spring, and Don Willemin II and wife, Maria, of Uvalde; five grandchildren, Emma Downing, Margaret Downing, Lois Downing, Kaitlyn Willemin and George Willemin; and numerous other family members related by blood, marriage, and of her choosing.
Cremation is under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
