Celso “Cate” Uriegas, 85, of Uvalde died Jan. 21, 2018, at Texsan Heart Hospital in San Antonio.
A funeral mass will be held today at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde. Burial will follow at Uvalde Catholic Cemetery.
Uriegas was born on Sept. 15, 1932, in Uvalde to Elvira (Vara) and Celso Uriegas.
He is survived by his wife, Alma Uriegas of Uvalde; five daughters, Elsa Field and Lisa Salinas, both of Uvalde, Elvira Cervantes and husband, Richard, of San Antonio, Rosemary Wisniewsky and husband, Steve, of McKinney, and Edwina Uriegas of Tampa, Florida; one son, Celso Alex Uriegas Jr. of Uvalde; three sisters, Nena Overstreet and Martha “Chole” Luna, both of Uvalde, and Lola Bermea of La Pryor; one brother, Jose Uriegas of Austin; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Anita Rodriguez; and one brother, Raul Uriegas.
A rosary was recited yesterday at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
Pallbearers will be Richard Cervantes, Johnny Field Jr., Adrian Rodriguez, Rico Rojas, Antonio “Tony” Varela and Seth Wisniewsky. Honorary pallbearers will be Adolfo Aguero Jr. and Steve Wisniewsky.
