Benito O. Castillo
Benito Olivarez Castillo, 77, of Farmington, New Mexico, died on Feb. 16, 2018, in Gallup, New Mexico.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 855 St. Mary’s Drive, Montrose, Colorado, 81401. Interment of ashes will follow at Cedar Cemetery in Montrose, Colorado. A celebration of life gathering will be held afterwards for friends and family.
He was born on Jan. 14, 1941, in Uvalde to Francisca (Solis) and Severiano Castillo.
He married Genevieve Matta on July 18, 1959, in Montrose, Colorado.
After leaving Texas, Castillo lived with his family in Montana, Utah, Colorado and California. He spent the majority of his life raising his family and running a local contracting business in Farmington, New Mexico. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus. The family says he was a friend to everyone he met and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his wife, of Montrose, Colorado, and daughter, Carmen Castillo.
Castillo is survived by brother, Matilde Castillo and wife, Celia, of Uvalde; three sons, Albert Castillo and wife, Lori, of Phoenix, Arizona, Michael Castillo and husband, David, of Jeffersonville, Pennsylvania, and Carlos Castillo and wife, Margie, of Beaumont, California; daughter Lucy Castillo Scully and husband, Chris, of Los Alamos, New Mexico; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
