Alejandra “Handa” Garcia, 68, of Batesville died on Jan. 19, 2018, in San Antonio.
She was born on Dec. 24, 1949, in Torreón, Mexico, to Conrada (Silva) and Luis Herrera.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; one brother, Refugio Herrera; one son, Victor Alfonso Garcia; and one daughter, Juanita Garcia.
Garcia loved cooking and spending quality time with her family. She had a joyous smile and she never met anyone she didn’t befriend.
Garcia is survived by her husband of 53 years, Francisco Garcia, of Batesville; five sons, Herman Garcia and wife, Raquel, of La Pryor, Francisco Garcia and wife, Maria Elena, of Florida, Juan Carlos Garcia, Alejandro Garcia, Jose Luis Garcia and wife, Valerie; and two daughters, Juana Maria Garcia, all of Batesville, and Dariela Rodriguez and husband, Cristian, of Piedras Negras, Mexico; four sisters, Esperanza Herrera and Guadalupe Silva Rosales, both of Piedras Negras, Mexico, Maria De Jesus Herrera of Houston, and Luz Elena Herrera of Rosenberg; two brothers; Juan Herrera of Houston and Jose Luis Herrera of of Piedras Negras, Mexico; 25 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation was held on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Chapel of Serenity at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home, located at 424 Geraldine Street in Uvalde.
A funeral service was held yesterday at 10 a.m. at Templo La Hermosa in Batesville, followed by interment at Edgewood-Woodlawn Cemetery in Batesville.
