Siedel E. Moravits

Siedel E. Moravits, 94, of Del Rio died on Dec. 6, 2018, in Del Rio.

He was born on June 20, 1924, in Karnes City to Edith (Ryan) and Willie I. Moravits.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served for eight years. He served during World War II, and he again served during the Korean War. He worked for the U.S. Border Patrol for more than 30 years, until his retirement in April 1979.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church, and a member of the Freemasons for 48 years. His hobby was being a ham radio operator, and he was a member of the Military Auxiliary Radio System (MARS) network. His primary recreational activity was square dancing, and he was a member of several area square dance clubs.

After retirement the family says he spent many years reading to children at El Progreso Memorial Library in Uvalde.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Barbara Pauline Badge Moravits; his parents; brother, Alger B. Moravits; sister, Helen G. Hixon; and granddaughter, Tammy Wilson.

Moravits is survived by two sons, Michael E. Moravits and wife, Sharon, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Steven P. Moravits and wife, Julie, of Oxford, Ohio; daughter, Patricia B. Moravits Browning and husband, Leslie, of Carthage, New York; three grandsons, Jeffrey Moravits, William Moravits and wife, Rosie, and Clay Wilson; two great-grandsons, George Moravits and James Moravits; and companion, Joyce Stone of Del Rio.

A visitation was held on Monday at 5 p.m., followed by a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m., both in the chapel at G.W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home,

A church service was held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Del Rio. Interment followed at Jeffery Cemetery in McMahan.
