Young exhibitors eyeing top prizes at stock show, sale

Hundreds of exhibits that include live animals, photos, farm projects and food will be unloaded at the Uvalde County Arena at the Fairplex today and tomorrow as 220 students of varying ages and locations across the region vie for prizes at the Uvalde County Junior Livestock Show and Sale.

Activities got underway early today, with the arrival of market swine beginning at 6 a.m. Arrivals, check-ins and other preparation activities will continue throughout the day today and tomorrow, along with project judging.

Today, activities are expected to wrap up after the 4 p.m. judging of meat goats. The schedule begins again tomorrow, when baked goods and salsa will be checked in from 7:30 to 9 a.m. The second day runs longer, with the judging of horses set at 6 p.m. Steers are scheduled to be judged at 4 p.m.
