Uvalde City Council on Tuesday approved a request by Pedro Almendarez to obtain a residential truck parking permit, which is required for owners of Class 8 vehicles who wish to park on residential property.

Class 8 trucks, which weigh 33,000 pounds or more, include cement mixers, dump trucks, fire trucks, fuel tankers, heavy semi-tractors, refrigerated vans, semi-sleepers and tour buses.

October 8, 2015, was the original deadline to obtain a residential parking permit. That deadline was extended to January of 2016, after several truck owners addressed council to express concern that they hadn’t had enough time to apply.

Almendarez addressed council in August of 2017 to request an extension because he was in the process of acquiring a truck. His request was granted and council extended the deadline to September of 2017. On Tuesday, Almendarez said he only recently was able to purchase a truck.
