UCISD could name lone finalist for superintendent

Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District trustees are set to announce a lone finalist today in the district’s search for superintendent. The finalist will be announced in a special board meeting to be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Benson board room.

The bulk of the discussion is expected to take place within closed session, wherein the board is expected to review and consider applications received for the position. Within closed session, trustees may also conduct interviews with applicants. When the board reconvenes, it is expected to name its finalist for the position.

Hal Harrell assumed the role of interim superintendent after Jeanette Ball stepped down in June to take the superintendency of Judson Independent School District. The board gave Harrell 90 days in the role of interim before opening a search for Ball’s replacement.

The 90 days was up Oct. 2. On Oct. 4, the district posted notice of the vacancy on its website, which gave applicants until noon on Oct. 22 to turn in all relevant documents to the human resources department.

Seven applications for the position were received by Central Office.
