Trustees tap reserves to cover $1.6 million deficit
Every Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District employee will receive a $500 bonus in December and a pay raise of 1.5 to 3 percent, depending on position, as a result of the $47.44 million budget UCISD trustees approved Monday evening.
Trustees also approved a new property tax rate of $1.27 per $100 valuation, which represents a decrease of 4.78 cents from the current rate of $1.32.
Uvalde County, which carries the bulk of the property tax burden, is projected to bring in $12.74 million for the district; Zavala County, $1.06 million; and Real County, $47,964.
Total revenue for Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District is expected to be $45.19 million for the new school year, which comes from federal, state and local sources. Among the local sources is a transfer of $1.16 million from a district fund set up to hold workers’ compensation benefits.
