First-day enrollment figures declined for the third straight year in the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District. Numbers secured from UCISD indicated a 5.3-percent drop in first-day attendance compared to first day in 2016.
There were 4,251 enrolled Aug. 21, 2017, the first day of classes, which represents 240 fewer students than in 2016.
First-day count in 2015 was 4,699. Peak first day enrollment in the last 10 years occurred in 2008 when the district reported 4,709 students showed up for the first day of class.
Ten years ago, there were 4,652 reported in attendance on the first day, while 15 years ago the number was 4,830.
An approximate number of 4,883 was reported for 2014 but later verified as a 4,482 first-day count. For the previous year, 2013, the first day count was also reported as an approximate 4,800. The exact 2013 first-day count was not available.
