Twenty-six-year-old Sarah Gonzalez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading no contest to her involvement in the November 2015 death of her son, 2-year-old Ismael Gonzalez.

Although Severo Cuellar is charged with inflicting the massive internal injuries that led to Ismael’s death, the 38th Judicial District attorney’s office believes the suspect’s mother, Guadalupe Cuellar, and victim’s mother, Gonzalez, were also at fault for allowing the toddler to come in contact with the convicted felon.

Guadalupe Cuellar and Sarah Gonzalez were indicted in January on charges of injury to a child by omission, a second degree felony.

The district attorney’s office says Sarah Gonzalez is at fault for leaving Ismael with a convicted felon and for not researching to find out if he was a registered sex offender.
