Special Olympics athletes bring home gold, silver medals

Six athletes from Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District brought home a dozen gold and silver medals from Saturday competition at the Area 20 Special Olympics spring games held at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio.

In all, 54 school districts across 18 counties participated in the event. Each of the UCISD athletes brought home two medals.

Christopher Garcia, a Morales Junior High student, brought home a silver medal for his performance in the 100-meter run and a gold in the softball throw.

For his performances in the 50-meter run and softball throw, Flores Elementary student Johnny Gonzalez earned two gold medals.

Adrian Leija, a student at Morales Junior High, received a silver medal for his 50-meter run and a gold for his softball throw.
