Jeff Cottrill, superintendent for Knippa Independent School District since 2011, has stepped down from that leadership role. In an interview with the Leader-News, he said that he had not been superintendent for all of the previous school year and will not be superintendent this year.
Cottrill stepped down in September of 2017 to pursue full-time work with the Texas Education Agency as its director of governance and investigations.
He signed a waiver with the agency’s commissioner of education in order to continue service to Knippa. His new role at the school district is to act as a consultant.
“If we have questions, we can call him,” said Elda Alejandro, who assumed the interim superintendency role for the district in September of 2017. Alejandro had been the business manager for the district for 31 years prior to becoming interim superintendent.
Cottrill said he is on the phone with Knippa ISD administration multiple times a week regarding communication, governance and leadership.
