Night Out unites officers, residents

Local and area residents celebrated National Night Out on Tuesday, when events were held in Uvalde and Sabinal.

Multiple observances, which were organized to bring awareness about various law enforcement agencies, were well attended according to organizers that include the Uvalde Police Department, Sabinal Police Department and Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office.

In Uvalde, events took place at H-E-B and El Progreso Memorial Library. Various block parties were also held throughout the city, including at Amistad Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and El Cenizo Apartments.

At H-E-B, hundreds of community members turned out. Spectators were treated to performances by the Uvalde High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps and marching band. The store gave out refreshments as well.

From 6-7 p.m., the El Progreso Memorial Library also played host to National Night Out activities. Donuts, hot dogs and other refreshments were served as the Uvalde High School pep squad was on hand to conduct a pep rally for local law enforcement.

The police department visited four block parties, including one at the Amistad Nursing.
