Conolly heading up new behavioral health department
Physicians Margaret A. Conolly and Herminio Q. Bezerra have joined the staff at Our Health/Nuestro Centro de Salud, part of Community Health Development Inc.
Bezerra, who works in internal medicine and geriatrics, was hired in December of 2016 while Conolly, a psychiatrist, was hired in January.
Internal medicine, also referred to as general medicine, deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Geriatric medicine is a speciality that focuses on the health care of elderly people.
Psychiatry is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, study and treatment of mental disorders. CHDI’s behavioral health department opened in January.
Conolly attended medical school in New Zealand but completed her psychiatric residency at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. She comes to Uvalde from Hawaii where she worked at a state forensic facility for adults.
Bezerra attended medical school in Brazil, where he also completed his residency. He completed a second residency with the University of Miami in Florida. Bezerra studied geriatrics at Boston University in Massachusetts, where he also earned a master’s degree in public health.
