Man kicks UPD officers after wreck

Two Uvalde Police Department officers were greeted with kicks to the face and knee Tuesday night as they attempted to detain 24-year-old Anthony Xavier Gonzales after he fled the scene of a two-vehicle crash.

Gonzales, who resides at 621 W. Main St., was arrested on charges of causing an accident involving damage to a vehicle; resisting arrest, search or transport; and assaulting public servants. Gonzales was also cited for failing to yield the right of way.

The incident occurred just after 6:39 p.m., when police were dispatched to the intersection of Mesquite and Fourth streets.

According to the department, Anthony Gonzales, driving a 2006 Cadillac, was traveling east on Mesquite Street as Francisca Castillo Gonzalez, driving a 2015 Nissan, was traveling south on Fourth Street.

Anthony Gonzales failed to yield the right of way at the intersection and struck Francisca Gonzalez.
