More than 160 to vie in barbecue cook-off

The 10th-annual Briscoe Ranch Cook-off at the Crossroads will take place tomorrow and Saturday at the Uvalde County Fairplex.

So far, 165 teams have registered – with two teams coming from as far as Iowa and New Mexico. Last year, the contest saw 153 entries.

The competition has grown since 2013 when the annual cook-off was recognized by the Texas Senate as a Texas State Championship barbecue competition; it’s also sanctioned by the International Barbecue Cookers Association.

Teams will compete in four categories: beef brisket, pork spare ribs, chicken halves and jackpot ribeye steak.

Prize money is awarded to the top 15 contestants in the categories of brisket, spare ribs and chicken.
