King talks suicide, depression

Lane Riggs

Staff writer

The Healthy Minds Matter Conference was the first of its kind in offering the community a resource fair on depression and suicide, but its overwhelming success means it probably will not be the last.

The conference held Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the civic center was hosted by Uvalde Memorial Hospital and featured Frank King, a former writer for the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. King was the keynote speaker because of his lifetime battle with depression and thoughts of suicide.

Since his first thoughts of suicide, King has learned more about his depression and turned his journey of suicide into a motivational speaking opportunity years ago. He tours the country to talk more about his battle, and even gave a TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) talk on depression and suicide.
