Hospital progress delayed

The planning stage of the new Uvalde Memorial Hospital building has experienced a slight delay, which will affect construction timelines, but it is expected to be completed and occupied by July of 2021.

At the 10 a.m. Monday meeting of the Uvalde County Commissioners’ Court, Uvalde Memorial Hospital administrator Tom Nordwick gave a presentation regarding the state of the project.

Nordwick said the United States Department of Agriculture, which will be directly financing much of the facility costs after completion of the project, did not accept the guaranteed maximum pricing submitted by UMH based upon design development drawings due to a number of bid qualifications outlined by the contract manager at-risk. The USDA instead required the guaranteed maximum pricing be based on full construction drawings.

Originally, the facility was scheduled for a Spring 2021 completion date, but this development moved the timeline back several months, in part due to expiring bids with subcontractors.
