El Progreso Memorial Library is close to realizing their $50,000 challenge with $45,150 received so far. The deadline to donate is Thursday, Jan. 31.
The challenge launched last month when a benefactor offered to match, dollar for dollar up to $50,000, each financial gift the library received before the Jan. 31 deadline.
Funds may be used to buy books or magazines, pay for equipment or operating expenses generated for the library, museum, archives, bookstore or meeting rooms.
“It’s never too late to give and, certainly, gifts are always appreciated,” said library director Mendell Morgan. “…In addition to library staff and board members who have contributed, we thank all of those who have given and appreciate the support the library has received from so many friends far and near.”
Among donations was a gift from the McClure family in honor of the late Leilani McClure of Uvalde.
“The challenge is a great time to honor someone or some event as well as to make a memorial gift. Each gift of $35 designated to the book collection fund will provide a bookplate for the item purchased to note the purpose of the gift and who gave it,” Morgan said.
Gifts are tax deductible and may be made by cash, check or credit card. Donations may be made at the library, 301 W. Main, or by calling 830-278-2017.
