Don’t leave vaccinations off back-to-school prep list

Despite the weeks of summer break still ahead, it’s not too soon to start thinking about student immunizations, according to Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District.

“Registration always is a bit easier if shot records are up to date, and available,” said Traci Dillard, UCISD head nurse.

If a shot record is lost, Dillard recommends contacting the last school where the child was registered for a copy, or contacting the pediatrician.

“Proof of vaccination is required when enrolling a student,” said Dillard.

For those needing vaccinations, community members are encouraged to have their children vaccinated over summer.

Required vaccinations vary for students dependent on age/grade levels.

For students in kindergarten through sixth-grade, needed vaccinations include measles, mumps and rubella; Hepatitis A and B; chickenpox; polio; and diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus.
