Severo R. Cuellar is due for a final pre-trial hearing on charges of injury to a child later this month, but the state of Texas has added another indictment to his rap sheet: aggravated sexual assault of the same child whose death he was accused of perpetrating.
Cuellar’s final pre-trial hearing in the matter, which stems from the November 2015 death of 2-year-old Ismael Gonzalez, is set Wednesday, Nov. 14. Jury selection is set to begin Nov. 26. Cuellar is the third of three individuals sentenced in connection with Ismael’s death.
Cuellar, a registered sex offender who had an outstanding warrant for parole violation at the time of Ismael’s death, was in a relationship with the toddler’s mother, Sarah Gonzalez. She and Cuellar’s mother were charged with injury to a child by omission.
