The trial for Cel’ves Cook, who was indicted on charges of capital murder for the December 2011 death of 4-year-old Davaughn Rodriguez, is tentatively set for March 2018. The preliminary date was announced Thursday during a status hearing, which was held at 9 a.m. in the Uvalde County Justice Center.

The date is subject to change pending the completion of co-defendant Sabrina Vielma’s trial. Vielma has also been charged with the young boy’s death.

Vielma took her son’s body to Uvalde Memorial Hospital on Dec. 11, 2011, saying she found him lifeless on the floor.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the manner of death to be homicide with the cause of death recorded as blunt force trauma to the head. At the time of the child’s death, police believed that Cook was at Vielma’s Wood Street home.

Vielma was initially arrested in April of 2012 on a charge of causing bodily injury to a child but in 2013 she was indicted on capital murder charges. She remained free after posting a $400,000 bond until a recent arrest on unrelated charges.
