Domingo David Moreno Jr., 28, was arrested Saturday for burglary of habitation with intent to commit a felony. Moreno allegedly entered a 200 East Mesquite Street residence, ransacked the home and assaulted the 83-year-old homeowner.

Uvalde Police were first dispatched to 219 E. Mesquite St., where Moreno resides, for a report of a male on narcotics.

As Uvalde Police Department Officer Rocky Bustamante was responding to assist officer Robert Gutierrez with the call, dispatchers advised of a burglary in progress at 308 E. Mesquite St.

Bustamante decided to first assist UPD Officer Ruby Gonzalez, who was en route to the burglary.

According to Bustamante, when the pair of officers arrived the front door was ajar.

“I observed a large portion of the residence to be ransacked, with many glasses and other items thrown on the floor,” Bustamante said. “I located the owner of the residence… and observed a laceration on her left forearm.”
