Blood center in dire need of donors

The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center will be in Uvalde County four times during the coming weeks to solicit blood donations. The center was down to one day’s worth of blood last weekend, due to a drain on supplies both from regular needs and problems from Hurricane Harvey.

Residents of Sabinal and Uvalde will have local options to donate blood on Wednesday. The center’s representatives will be in Uvalde again on Sept. 22 and Oct. 3, and in Knippa on Oct. 13.

On Wednesday, potential donors can visit Sabinal High School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where the mobile unit will be set up in the parking lot.
