One softball athlete hailing from Uvalde and another from Sabinal were part of the Pearsall’s Arsenal 14 and under fast-pitch team that won third place overall at the Pony League International World Series recently in Deer Park.
The tournament consisted of select travel teams, Pony League teams and a number of international teams.
The final three teams vying for the championship were all select teams and included the Houston Bombers, Freeport Heat Extreme and Arsenal of Pearsall.
Arsenal posted wins over the Katy Express Aces, Russia twice, Mexico, Weslaco Krush and Houston Impact Gold, before a heartbreaking, last-inning semifinal loss to the Freeport Heat Extreme.
The team extended its thanks to businesses for the jersey donations and the Pearsall Parks and Recreation Department for backpacks used for gift exchanges.
The Arsenal team consists of: Alyssa Garcia, Layla Del Toro and Sarah Brady, all of Pearsall, Kristianaha Prado of Dilley, Adysela Salas of Crystal City, Alyssa Montalvo of Lytle, Paeton Dimas of Somerset, Mia Aguilar of Uvalde, Jaliyah Rodriguez of Sabinal, Gina Carrillo and Anissa Cardona of Eagle Pass, Stephanie Villalobos of Laredo and Mary De La Garza of Brownsville.
The team is coached by George Cabasos and assistants Santos Dimas, Jesse Salas and Jose De La Garza.
