Fundraising for the Rotary Club of Uvalde’s long-time planned Memorial Park Amphitheater project has been successful, and construction is scheduled to begin by the end of September.

In advance of construction, the Rotary Club of Uvalde and Summit Landscape and Design will host a ceremonial groundbreaking event on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. at the build site, located between the Leona River and the Willie de Leon Civic Center. The public is invited to attend.

Through grants, including a matching grant of $25,000 from the Uvalde Convention and Visitors Bureau, one of $2,500 from the Rotary Club District Office, $5,000 provided by the City of Uvalde and donations and contributions from supporters, just over $62,000 has been raised to start the project.

Individual donors also purchased rows of seating for $5,000 per row.

Uvalde-based Dirksen Engineering donated time spent drafting the blueprints and design plans.
