Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Jeanette Ball described the 9-year-old boy who brought a handgun to school Tuesday as a good student who displayed poor judgment.

The child has been suspended for up to 90 days.

“He is very remorseful and said he wasn’t going to hurt anybody. He is a good kid, but we take this very seriously and there will be serious consequences,” Ball said.

According to the Uvalde Police Department, the student found the handgun in an empty lot near his home on Nov. 25.
