With summer in full swing, El Progreso Memorial Library’s June calendar boasts a plethora of events to keep youngsters entertained.
Along with the summer reading program, there’s a Lego club and chess club holding court in the children’s area on Thursdays.
The Lego club meets from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and is followed by the chess club at 5 p.m.
For preschoolers, a story hour with special guest readers is scheduled every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
For youngsters ages 9-14, local educator and Math Rocks business owner Deyanira Salazar is launching a Science Action Club for fifth-, sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders. The first class is scheduled Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Students will participate in a bug safari, and through games, projects and investigations they will explore nature. The Science Action Club is free and open to the first 30 students.
In conjunction with the library’s many activities, the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District food truck will be serving free meals for UCISD students at the library every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to noon, beginning tomorrow.
The El Progreso Club and Uvalde County Historical Commission will not be meeting during the summer.
El Progreso Memorial Library is located at 301 W. Main St.
