Guerrero, Ponish win fishing tourney

Ricky Guerrero and Howard Ponish were the first-place winners of the Uvalde Bass Club’s June fishing tournament held at Falcon Lake.

Guerrero captured first place on June 13. His three fish weighed a total of 12.11 pounds.

Ponish claimed first place on June 14. He caught three fish at a total weight of 11.13 pounds.

Finishing a close second to Ponish was Gene Rodriguez who brought in three fish at a total weight of 11.03 pounds.

Among Rodriguez’s three fish was the big bass of the day, a 6.10-pounder.

Rodriguez was penalized .25 of a pound for having a dead fish. With the penalty figured in, his big bass was credited with a weight of 5.85 pounds.

Clarence McNiel finished a distant third with three fish totaling 7.51 pounds, while Pete Arredondo placed fourth with three fish totaling 6.51 pounds.

Jon Jones won runner-up honors on June 13.

Jones netted three fish at a total weight of 11.93 pounds.

His total was .18 of a pound behind Ricky Guerrero’s total.

Jones caught the big bass of the day. He hooked a 6.50-pound bass.

Brian Langner edged out Ricky Villareal for third place on June 13.

Langner’s three fish totaled 10.69 pounds, while Villareal’s three fish totaled 10.62 pounds.

The next bass club tournament is scheduled for July 11-12 at Amistad Lake.
