His business is rooted in the ever-changing technology of cell phones, but on a recent day of work Brackettville resident Ricardo Guajardo found a treasure trove of historically-relevant newspapers from the 1960s.

Guajardo is employed with Blue Ridge Towers owned by Anthony Smith and based in Roanoke, Virginia. The business develops communication towers and leases the use of them to cellular carriers.

“I just started this year,” Guajardo said. “Anthony started getting into the tower industry and I’ve been doing this for 17 years so I am his construction manager.”

Guajardo said the company built its first tower in Roanoke, Virginia. There, while clearing nine acres of newly-purchased land, Guajardo came across several old newspapers and old soda bottles.
