Gomes crowned Cinco de Mayo queen

Five-year-old Davinah Rosa Gomes was crowned queen during the Cinco de Mayo celebration organized by American Legion Post 479. The annual event was held May 5-6 at the Jardin de Los Heroes Park on West Main St.

Elaina Martinez, 2, was crowned princess.

The pair raised $2,375.

Although the two queen candidates retain 40 percent of money raised, the remaining funds go toward scholarships given by the legion auxiliary.

Gomes will be tasked with attending various auxiliary and legion functions as her schedule permits. She is the daughter of Diana and Michael Gomes.

Gomes attends Dalton Early Childhood Center and enjoys dancing, soccer fishing, and helping others.

Martinez is the daughter of April Renee Martinez and Daniel Hernandez.
