Green Thumb Garden Club has announced residential and business yard of the month honorees for July.
The country home of Judie and Weldon Gilleland located at 655 County Road 103 is the residential yard of the month. A massive oak tree greets visitors as they approach the home.
The diverse landscaping includes oleander, salvias, caladiums, foxtail fern, elephant ear, firecracker plant, Boston ferns, roses and ornamental grasses. Pride of Barbados, lantana, red and pink begonias, portulaca, starburst lily, silver falls and red geraniums share space with sweet potato vine, bougainvillea and pots of pineapple.
Color abounds, with pink, red and yellow shades harmonizing into oranges, and purple and green shades providing contrast. Mountain laurels, fig, Mexican olive, Satsuma, palms, chinaberry and oak trees provide shade. Anchoring the backyard is a covered seating area, which delights the eye with a beautifully constructed outdoor rock fireplace reminiscent of the Alamo. Metal figurines of sheep, pigs, deer and vintage farm equipment add to the ambiance.
