April Ruhman and Landra Fowler were honored as top faculty members for the 2016-2017 school year during Southwest Texas Junior College’s annual dean’s breakfast held May 12 in Uvalde.
Fowler received the SWTJC faculty association teaching excellence award. She is a physical education instructor and coordinator of the kinesiology department on the Uvalde campus.

Ruhman received the outstanding faculty member award presented annually by the SWTJC administration. She is an instructor of economics in Uvalde.
Stephanie Cerna and Irma Garcia were awarded the outstanding professional staff member award. Cerna is the academic advising director, and Garcia is the business officer director.
Angie Gaucin, information technology applications manager was the recipient of the outstanding support staff member.
Seven SWTJC employees who are retiring this year were recognized. They include Yvonne G. Martinez, 36 years; San Juana G. Trevino, 35; Alberto Garza, 33; Estella Luna, 31; Marilyn Casson, 25; Barbara J. Compton, 20; and Terri Wilson, 17 years of service.
Service pins were presented to Jack Lampe for 45 years. Thirty-five-year pins went to Nancy Masterson and Carlos Cazares. Delia Esquivel was honored for 30 years of service.
Marilyn Casson picked up her 25-year pin along with Lidia Alvarez, Oscar S. Garcia, Fela Garza and Lorena Lopez.
