De La Cruz contender for Whataburger super football team

Uvalde High School senior Ryan “The Animal” De La Cruz is in the running to be named to the Whataburger Super Team.

According to UHS athletic director R.T. Gonzales, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has partnered with Whataburger to honor the best in Texas high school football with the 2019 Whataburger Super Team.

“Ryan leads the San Antonio area in interceptions,” said Gonzales. There are 40 available spots on the Whataburger Super Team. Voting is taking place online at TexasFootball.com, from November to December.

To cast a vote for De La Cruz, it is necessary to vote for all team positions. He wears the No. 7 jersey and is quarterback for the Uvalde Coyotes.

De La Cruz has a 94.28 grade point average and ranks 23rd in his class.

He also plays baseball for Uvalde and volunteers as a counselor for the youth GetFIT program.
