The first-ever charitable bingo games at Herby Ham Activity Center are scheduled Thursday, Jan. 16, featuring cash payouts, door prizes, and hours of entertainment.
Doors will open at 5 p.m. Attendees will be able to play 10 games for $14. The bingo games are slated to kick-off at 7 p.m., and will offer cash payouts up to $2,500, not including bingo pull tab games.
According to the Texas Lottery Commission Bingo Operations Division, a pull tab is a form of bingo paper with perforated break open tabs that has predetermined prizes and has immediate recognition of the outcome of the ticket.
The center will also be selling bingo supplies such as daubers and concessions. All transactions at the center, including the entry fees, are cash only. Door prizes will be given away during the first three games held at the center.
There will also be several electronic machines on-site, said Herby Ham Activity Center representative Monika Lewis.
She also said that bingo will be offered at Herby Ham every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The doors will open for every game at 5 p.m., with the bingo games starting at 7 p.m., except on Sunday, when doors will open at noon, with games starting at 2 p.m.
Although charitable bingo was not approved by voters in Uvalde County until November of 2019, the conducting of charitable bingo with proceeds intended for charitable purposes was authorized by the Texas Legislature in 1981. It has been approved by voter referendum in 120 counties, 160 justice precincts and 272 cities.
