Amateur singers deliver inspired performances

The following information was submitted by John Juhasz, organizer of the Uvalde Idol series and a teacher at Knippa Collegiate.

With the same excitement as an amateur sporting event, singers from the Uvalde County area competed for the coveted title of 2019 Uvalde Idol before a cheering crowd at the Uvalde Grand Opera House on Saturday. They didn’t disappoint as they cherished their moment in the spotlight at the area’s premiere venue for the arts.

First-place finishers were Uvalde resident Arin Joshi, who competed in the 11-and-younger division; Brackettville resident Cassidy Fox, 12-14 age group; and Uvaldean Claire Dean, 15-and-younger division.

Joshi delivered an inspired rendition of the Imagine Dragons hit “Believer,” which had the crowd cheering as his choreography appropriately reflected the upbeat, inspirational message of the song.

Fox charmed the crowd with her delivery of “Watch,” by Billie Eilish. Her smooth vocal qualities and strong voice endeared her to the judges who were all in agreement that she had the strongest performance in her division.
